THE LONGEVITY WELLNESS REVOLUTION

THE FORGOTTEN STAGE OF LIFE

When I speak at health events, I often begin with a simple question:

“How many of you would like to live to 100?”

About half the audience raises their hands.

Then I ask, “How many of you don’t want to live to 100?”

The other half raises theirs.

When I ask why not, the answers are always the same:

“I don’t want to suffer.”

“I don’t want to live in pain.”

“I don’t want to lose my independence.”

“I don’t want to spend my final years just existing.”

But then I ask one more question:

“How many of you would like to live to 100—with energy, purpose, and joy?”

Almost every hand in the room goes up.

And in that moment, the truth becomes clear:

It’s not the number of years we fear—it’s the quality of those years.

Most people have low expectations for life after the age of 80. They see it as a time to endure, not to enjoy. The average life expectancy in much of the world, especially in the West, is still in the 70s, and doctors often remind us that by then, nearly everyone has at least one chronic disease. The media echoes the same message: after 80, life is about decline, not vitality.

This story has shaped our collective mindset. It tells us that once we reach a certain age, our best years are behind us. And because we hear it so often, we start to believe it. We’ve received no map, no guidance, and no vision to thrive beyond 80.
But I’ve learned, through both research and personal experience, that this is far from the truth. The years from 80 to 100 and beyond—the 5th Stage of Life—can be a time of renewal, creativity, wisdom, and joy. The problem isn’t our capacity to live well; it’s our lack of awareness that we can.

At 83, I’m not just studying longevity—I’m living it. I’ve discovered that aging can be a time of deeper purpose, emotional freedom, and connection—if we approach it with the right mindset and lifestyle.

This book is not about surviving longer.

It’s about living better—with energy, purpose, and joy—through every moment we accept the gift of life.
